1940 war-raised unit based initially on officers & drafs from King's Own holding battalions, titled 10th (S) Bn. but changed in Jan. 1942 to 151st Reg. Royal Armoured Corps & began to train with tanks; retitled as 107 Regt. early in 1944, embarked for Normany 30th June 1944 & fought in break-out battles, Falaise, advance to the Rhine, &c. Roll of casualties, KiA or DoW, PoWs, roll of awards (with citations) & a number of interesting appendices on various actions. Some time spent with 15th & 51st Scottish Divisions. Orig. dec. paper covd. boards with cloth backstrip, VG & rare with loosely inserted typed slip "With the Compliments of Lt Colonel C.H. Reprint of all the CIH Newsletters that appeared from time to time between the regiment's departure overseas in July 1940 to its return to India in Feb. 1946: in between it saw service with 4th Indian Div. in Eritrea, North Africa, PAIFORCE & Italy, initially armed only with carriers until Humber Armoured Cars arrived in Italy in March 1944. The newsletters contain a goldmine of fascinating material on the regiment & its members in the war, written for regimental consumption & with great immediacy. Much personal information includes various lists of officers, casualties among the ranks, full citations for awards &c. Orig. full green morocco, gilt to sp. & with regimental device to front. Perkins 420. VG, rare with ink inscrip. "With Kind Regards from The Central India Horse. R.W.P." i.e. Brig. R.W. A very informative & rather scarce account of the process of officer training at the RAC OCTU (at Sandhurst) during WW2, in all its facets, including the personal experiences of the author (who emerged from it as a 2nd Lieut. in 1942). Attractively produced with amusing sketches & a 20pp. 'Epilogue' recording the author's arrival in the Middle East where after top-up courses at the RAC Base Depot he was appointed a liaison officer at HQ BTE (British Troops Egypt) before joining his unit - 3rd RTR - where he was posted to command the Recce Troop in "A" Sqdrn. in time to participate in the Battle of El Alamein, of which he provides a graphic account, culminating in the brewing-up of his Dingo with consequent losses including himself wounded. (Note: Ross was awarded the MC for Alamein, later returned to 3 RTR & wounded again in Tunisia. In 1944 he returned to the RAC OCTU as an instructor.
